My usual doctor wasn’t in today so I saw the head honcho fs. He didn’t seem remotely concerned about my TSH as my free T3 and free T4 were both within normal range (although on the lower side of normal- 11 and 3). He thinks it’s just a question of sorting out the dosage of my meds, and since I’ve already upped them, he didn’t think it should stop us from moving ahead.
And then he told me to take Clomid for seven days, starting today (Day 3). That really surprised me. I’ve been reading about Days 3-7 or Days 5-9, but I haven’t seen many people on it for seven days in a row. (Anyone out there have experience with this?) When I asked about it, he said they felt that gave them a better success rate with PCOS.
Personally, I suspect they think my ovaries need a HUGE kick to get going.
So I’m excited and worried. Excited to be finally making forward progress towards ovulation (as I think it’s clear that metformin alone isn’t going to do it for me). Worried about just how crazy I can get on seven days of Clomid (I hope Q.’s feeling tolerant next week…). And hoping that this doctor knows what he’s talking about and my TSH isn’t going to cause a problem.
Although in circumstantial evidence, I’ve lost weight this week without really trying, which could be a sign that my TSH is heading back to where it should be. I’ll know in early July once I see the endocrinologist. And if s/he flips out that I’m ttcing and my TSH still isn’t right, I will be (at worst) six days past ovulation. Surely we could fix any TSH issues before it affected any potential baby?
So now I take the Clomid, cross my fingers, and head back to the clinic next Friday to see what’s happening in my ovaries.
Hey Turia,
Just found your blog through your comment on mine. Good luck with the Clomid! You feeling funny yet? I’ve been kind of spacey and a little dizzy for the last two days. I’ll be curious to see how my ovaries look next week at my next ultrasound. Hope this stuff is working.
So, to try to help answer one of your older posts, doing IUI with the Clomid (especially if your husband’s sperm count is good) is to bypass the cervical mucus (or lack thereof). Clomid can do some good stuff, but one of its drawbacks is that it can dry up that mucus which is *key* stuff. That’s what the sperm continue swimming in once they get into your uterus. But IUI bypasses the cervix alltogether, so it insures more sperm at the proper place at (hopefully) the proper time.
Sheesh, I sound like I’m trying to be such a f*cking expert when really– I just learned all this a few days ago!
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!

Clomid makes me crazy, I truly prefer the injectibles!
I have not heard of taking it 7 days, but that doesn’t mean a thing. All doctors are so different and I know mine has done things completely opposite from some others I had read about. You just have to find peace about what your current course is and stay positive that you will have the best possible outcome!
I have my fingers crossed for you.
*hugs*
